Paige Halliwell is a composer, flautist and singer, born in 1998, who works with a wide variety of musical styles.
In her composing, she is currently exploring her ideas of timbral quality and asynchrony in music; finding ways of navigating the performing spaces of transition between different timbres and tones. With these compositional interests, Paige is passionate about creating work that many musicians of many abilities can explore, enjoy and participate in. Paige's most recent recognition for her choral work was given by the '2020 Schellhorn Prize for Sacred Music Composition Competition', where she gained an honourable mention for her sacred choral piece Ecce Novum Gaudium (2020). Paige has previously written a chamber opera for the Manchester Contemporary Youth Opera Company, as part of a collaborative project, performed at the Dance House Theatre in Manchester.
Up to date, Paige has written for a variety of instrumentations, including instrumental chamber groups, orchestra, flexible ensembles and a collection of solo pieces. Her most recent chamber ensemble work Capacity (2021) was for Plus-Minus Ensemble, where instructions of musical playing actions were shown, then manipulated by independently varying the 'pressure' and 'rate'.
In 2020, Paige wrote a new work for CoMA (“an organisation dedicated to enabling musicians of all abilities to participate actively in contemporary music”), exploring ideas of emergence and dissolving. The piece Flux (2020) was written for the flexible instrumentation of Bristol's CoMA ensemble, and is now available in CoMA's catalogue of music.
Paige currently co-runs/co-created Crescent Chamber Orchestra; a modern orchestra with a mission to inspire participation from a range of ages and abilities , through both performing and creating in all types of music. Currently, Paige is in her final year of her MA Composition study at Bath Spa University, with composers Dr Matthew Sergeant and Professor James Saunders.
She is free-lance singer and flautist, providing bespoke performances in a variety of styles for events, recitals and concerts (further details found on Services & Contact page). Alongside this, Paige regularly offers private music tutoring in voice (classical/contemporary/pop/theatre), flute, composition and theory to a range of ages and abilities (further details found on Services & Contact page).
